This week I was lucky and got a nice break right in the middle to skip up to London for a day. It wasn't really a break from work, I went up for social media training. A course called How to Think Like an Editor. It was really good. I love all of this social media stuff I get to do everyday, and all day Wednesday I jut got to learn and talk about it.
I learnt about how to find your audience online, how to find useful and relevant content in house and then how to send that content out to your audience across different sites and mediums. I was intimidated in the introductions by the pretty lady with the huge diamond wedding ring who is a senior marketing manager for a large software corporation. She made me feel inexperienced. But then, I knew about a lot of the examples the presenter used (thanks to reading Marketing Week) and other people in the workshop thought I really knew my stuff. Almost three months into this role, and already I'm almost an expert. Haha not really, still soooo much to learn!
After the workshop ended I was really excited because I was seeing Siobhan. I finished early though and had about an hour and a half to wait before meeting her. What to do? I walked along the Thames back towards London Bridge, but it was a bit windy and chilly. I sat outside of Tate Modern for a little while, then remembered it's free. Most all museums in London are free. So I spent a good 45min wandering through admiring all of the art - some of it gorgeous, some of it weird. That is one of the great things about a big city, being able to jump into a museum when you have a little spare time.
Then it was time to meet Siobhan for drinks and a bite to eat. We met at All Bar One a London Bridge Station because it's close to the train and they have a good cocktail hour deal. We chatted for ages over bellini's and a few small plates of food. Laughed at the horribly drunk girl a couple of tables away from us. At first we couldn't decide if she was an escort or Thai bride as she seemed much younger than her silver haired friend. He ended up leaving her and instantly she was grabbing on to a random man at the table between us, trying to kiss him, and "go have some fun"!! He just sat there shocked trying to ignore her. Finally she left stumbling into a cab, I don't think she was an escort or Thai bride, just a very drunk girl.
Before we knew it the clock struck nine and it was time to go. I had an hour long train journey ahead of me. Wednesday was a great day, and made Friday come very quickly.
Love
