Traditionally in my family New Years Eve is spent at home enjoying a big meal and playing board games until we watch the ball drop in Times Square at midnight. When I reached my late teens this changed as I went out with friends instead. This year however I wanted a traditional celebration, and luckily Tom agreed.
We always ate either a feast of crab or a lengthy fondue; this year I craved fondue. I was looking forward to an evening with my parents eating fondue, sipping some cocktails and possibly bringing in the new year in the spa. My Uncle Charles and cousins Evan and Alessandra ended up joining us too.
Fondue was definitely the highlight of the night. My dad prepared a platter of; steak, pork, elk, tilapia, prawns, mushrooms, chicken and cheese, giving us a large variety and plenty of food. We grazed over a couple of hours as we cooked piece by piece in pots of bubbling oil. With a nearly empty platter and feeling so full we could touch no more, it was time for games.
My dad an uncle challenged each other to pool as the rest of us played the new
Trivial Pursuit: Bet You Know It. This version of Trivial Pursuit is much better than the original in my opinion. The questions are easier and you bet on whether other players will answer correctly or not, which adds an exciting element to the game. All too soon it was midnight.
Instead of the ball dropping, this year we watched fireworks explode from below my parents' house in Yakima, a spectacular sight! Our party didn't continue too much longer as we knew we had an early morning and full day on the slopes to get up for.
Happy New Year!
Love
